The Tax Year runs from April 1 to March 31 of each year. Property taxation in New Hampshire is a process involving all levels of government, from the voters at town and school district meetings, town selectmen, and local assessing officials, to state legislators and court officials. It is a yearly process beginning with the preparation of the budget and voting of appropriations, continuing with the assessment of property and the setting of the tax rates, and concluding with the appeal process. The Town of Canaan mails property tax bills semi-annually with due dates of July and December.
